As an entrepreneur, I often encounter people who thrive on strong relationships. More than that, I am struck by the resilience and upbeat spirit of those whose very fabric seems woven with optimism. Their commitment to being forthright and honest is remarkable. In fact, their outlook is nearly unbreakable.
For this reason, I introduce one colleague—who has been a friend for years—as an example. This individual has a twist to their personality, too. By the end (if you will indulge me for a few moments), you will see the nuggets of wisdom from this relationship that may empower you as well.
Relationships: Qualities of a Loyal Person
In conversations with customers or prospects, certain qualities are key to building meaningful connections. The person I am describing embodies them all, and then some. Over the years, they have demonstrated traits that are second to none:
Determination
Beyond the heart of a champion, this companion never quits. Determination might as well be their middle name. Their positive energy and prompt decision-making—whether in large projects or small tasks—are remarkable.
Attentive
Like radar, this person is mindful not only of themselves but also of coworkers, customers, and prospective clients. In their eyes, courtesy and thoughtfulness are simply the norm.
Reliable
Reliable and true, the fever pitch is extraordinary. Always fiery and attentive, they listen intently and respond at a moment’s notice to any situation. A trusted friend through and through.
Responsibility
Responsibility is not a chore—it is a noble demand that requires action. My friend seizes the moment with enthusiasm and often goes above and beyond the call of duty.
A Piece of Scrap?
Of course, I am talking about Izzy—my 9-pound Australian Terrier. Fierce, loyal, and steadfast beyond compare, she was always waiting for the right opportunity to pounce on the competition. Her ultimate reward? A piece of scrap, so to speak.
Even though we are human, perhaps we should refine the same characteristics. If we do, maybe we will achieve our goals in relationships as well.
Surprisingly, when we adopt this approach, the outcome can be quite fantastic.
Which personality traits in your friends or companions do you admire the most, and how can you emulate them in your own relationships?
